KTC Dallas

Karma Thegsum Choling Dallas (KTC Dallas) became an affiliate center of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) in 1990, as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit in the State of Texas. A study group had met informally in living rooms and rented spaces since the late 1980’s.

KTD is the North American seat of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, the head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

Lama Dudjom Dorjee and the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa

In 1998 we were joined in Dallas by Venerable Lama Dudjom Dorjee, teacher and author.  We are both honored and delighted to make the teaching and spiritual guidance of Lama Dorjee available to the local and regional community. Check out one of his teachings via podcast here.

A more thorough history of our KTC Center can be found here, as well as the history of the annual “Union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen” Bluebunny Retreat, here. Also there is the independent but deeply affiliated Dawa Dolma Meditation Center in Denton led by Dawa Sangmu of Juliet’s Jewels in Denton, Texas.

We make every effort to keep the schedule of upcoming events up to date, but events do change, sometimes at the last minute. Unless otherwise specified, all events below take place at the KTC Center, 1000 Armeda Avenue Irving, Texas 75061. See map.

Day-long retreats are usually 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, with a two-hour break at noon. Usually a detailed flyer is e-mailed prior to KTC retreats. Get on the KTC email list here.

EventsKTC Dallas has a regular Sunday Practice schedule with Lama Dudjom Dorjee Rinpoche at the center in Irving.

Our Sunday programs start at 10am.  On the Sundays when Lama Dudjom Dorjee is in residence, there is usually a Dharma teaching from Rinpoche at this time. Usually there is also the opportunity for a short Dharma “interview” with the Lama after the teaching.

KTC Dallas is also one of the few Dharma Centers in the US that offers the Nyungne fasting and purification practice on a regular basis.  This is entirely due to Lama Dudjom Dorjee, who makes this amazing practice available to us. More about the Nyungne Retreats here.

The Stupa Blueprint Drawing

Drawing by Guy Stewart from the direction of Lama Dudjom Dorjee. May All Beings Benefit! This will be an Enlightenment Stupa. This was decided after consultation with Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche and His Holiness the 17th Karmapa.

The Buddha explained that five factors would be needed. About the importance of stupas –

Above: Illustration of what it might be like to have a stupa at the KTC! The Buddha explained that five factors would be needed.
